None other name

Act 4:10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

Act 4:11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

Act 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Introduction: The above verses state plainly that there is only one name that has the power to save. The name referred to is Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Jesus in Hebrew is the name Joshua which means ( Jehovah saved ) and Christ in the Hebrew is Messiah which means( anointed one) of Nazareth is the place where our Lord lived for many years. The salvation spoken of is referring to deliverance from eternal punishment in hell. There is no mistaking whom this scripture referred to. So who is Jesus Christ of Nazareth, that such a profound statement could be said of him? This Bible study is for the purpose of proving that Jesus is God.

I. God’s word shows us that Jesus is God in human form

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.

Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

This verse shows us that God is the creator, John 1:1,14 show us that the word was God and the word became flesh. This can only be referring to Jesus.

Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Col 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Col 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

1. At this point I need to ask; do you believe God to be the creator of heaven and earth?

This bible study is intended to teach who The Lord Jesus Christ is, and how you could come to know him as your personal saviour. If you do not believe God is the creator lets consider that now.

2. Would you agree based on the above verses that Jesus is God in human form?

3. Do you have any questions? If you are considering this Bible study from our website please write your questions down and we will do our best to answer them the next time we are together. You may also e-mail your questions to me or the person you have been studying with.

II.God’s word shows us that Jesus is equal with God

  1. God word plainly says this of the Lord Jesus Christ

Php 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Php 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

Php 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

Php 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

  1. Jesus plainly says it of himself in the following way.

1. One of the Old Testament names God gave himself when Moses went to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt was I am that I am.

Exo 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

2. This name speaks of God’s eternal existence, and his complete independence of all things for his existence. God is the only self reliant being in existence.

Before there was anything there was God. God does not need us in order to exist. We would not exist without him nor could we continue to exist if he ceased to exist.

Psa 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

Psa 102:24 I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are throughout all generations.

Psa 102:25 Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.

Psa 102:26 They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed:

Psa 102:27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.

3. Having shown you this; I want to show you that the Lord referred to himself in this same way.

Joh 8:55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.

Joh 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

Joh 8:57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

Joh 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

Joh 8:59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

Those Hebrew people knew full well that he was declaring himself to be Jehovah God the eternal one. That is why they took up stones to stone him. The Lord Jesus walked through the midst of them miraculously because it was not time for him to die yet.

  1. From the above scriptures and explanation do you have any questions about the truth that Jesus is equal with God ?

  2. Would you agree with what you have seen from God’s word that Jesus is equal with God?

III. God’s word shows us that he is the second person of the

God head

In Showing that the Bible teaches that Jesus is God it does not mean that there is more than one God. God has revealed himself to us in three persons: the father, the son and the Holy Spirit. In a general application We see the father has prominence in the Old Testament, The Son has prominence in the New Testament. The Holy Spirit of God is the one who reveals to us the truth about God.

2. God’s word speaks of the godhead, lets define this word

GOD'HEAD, n. god'hed.

  1. Godship; deity; divinity; divine nature or essence; applied to the true God, and to heathen deities.

3.God’s word describes Jesus as the fullness of the godhead

Col 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.

4. God refers to himself in the plural form when he created man, He is 3 persons one God.

Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Gen 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

God’s word teaches that we are a 3 part being.

1Th 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God word shows all three persons of the God head when Jesus was baptized

Mat 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

Mat 3:17 and lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

I hope that this Bible study helps to show just who Jesus is according to his word. If we were originally created in his image, what went wrong that we ended up needing a Saviour? The next Bible study in this series will give us the answer to that question.
